For Adriana
I had planned on a relaxing afternoon of intermittent napping and laundry folding but that changed when I picked up the mail. I recieved an envelope containing a lovely letter and one very important name: Adriana N. Salem.
Adriana was an Army Specialist from Elk Grove Village, Illinois who died in Remagen, Iraq on March 4, 2005 when her military vehicle rolled over.
It is my honor to embroider her name for the Mother’s Day Project.
I also find it sadly appropriate that the first flowers to appear in my gardens
chose today to color my world.
Bleeding Hearts for Adriana and her family.
I encourage everybody who can hold a needle to join the project.
Honor a fallen woman and the family that lost her.

Thanks for this post and all that we should remember and the people we should honor. The bleeding heart in bloom is a very appropriate symbol here. I am going to go out in our woods and look for it. It should be in bloom now.

p.s. I am hoping to join up. Just emailed to see if they need more people on the Mother’s Day Project. I truly hope to participate.
And, yes, the wild Bleeding Heart is in bloom in our woods. It was a good visit. Thanks!
